November 2008
We’re into the season “proper” now
and its clear to say whilst there is much
to praise, there is much to work on all
over the pitch.
Firstly the good, we are passing
the ball like never before(!) we are
moving well, putting in dogged
performances and really showing
teams what SA Stainash FC are all
about on and off the pitch. Some
periods of play have been
outstanding and playing like that
we could give ANY team a good game.
The bad….. we are simply not consistent enough throughout ninety minutes. Our heads drop, we have sloppy periods of play, in which we get hurt and we seem to totally lose interest in the basics – something no matter how bad you think you are playing, you should not forget.
We need to keep talking throughout the games and this does not just mean words of encouragement – we need to talk to each other on the pitch intelligently and by this I mean 1) where you want a player to go 2) where you are in relation to the player with the ball 3) where the opposition is 4) how much time the player has….
Obviously you cannot tell a player all this in one go, but try to at least give intelligent “talk” to a player – we should be each other’s eyes and ears!
The ugly – when things start to go bad (you know when – it’s horrible when it does), lets keep optimistic! I think we can all be a little over the top in our pessimism. Coaches need to be positive at half time, no matter the score, players need to tell each other to keep going and not simply shout negative thoughts and fans, well fans do a flipping brilliant job and we love you we do!
We have a few games left this year before the Christmas break, so lets treat them as something we can really do well in, to set ourselves up for 2009 and another year for SA Stainash FC. Remember, every Saturday we need to focus, get stuck in and keep loving the game we all adore.
Peace, love and a big cuddle to you all (!)
Vice-Cap, Andy
